ConfiguratorWorks

ZES has created ConfiguratorWorks, a program for companies that want to create and edit their own product configurators in a cheap and easy way. ConfiguratorWorks doesn't require any API knowledge.

The program exists of two different programs: a Recorder and a Player.

The Recorder enables users to select pre-defined actions from a list and use these steps to make a product configurator. All required data can easily be taken from the active SolidWorks file, so the user won't waste time entering all required information. Non-existing, or custom made functionality can easily be created, because the program also has the ability to run SolidWorks macros.

The Recorder can be used to create, modify, edit and adjust configurator files. It's a great tool to create your configurator.

ZES has years of experience creating SolidWorks macros.

The Player can be used to run the configurator and prompt the user to enter the required information. Based on the selected steps in the Recorder, the Player automatically builds up the interface in which the user can enter the required data (dimension values, configuration names).

The Recorder is the first step to take when you want to make your own product configurator.

The Recorder contains a list with predefined actions which the user can select. The actions that have to be performed can be placed in a Feature Manager-like treestructure.

Users can easily edit existing configurators to add extra steps or to delete steps.

- Start SolidWorks macro

For each configurator an image can be selected to support the configurator and to give extra feedback to the user.

After all steps that have to be performed are set, the configurator can be saved. The user that uses the Recorder must be a SolidWorks user that knows which steps have to be taken to create a new model.

Use 'if-functions' to define the input-dependent actions. E.g. a changing preview image, so the user sees the implact of his/her choise. Or open extra documents based on what the user selected.

The Player enables people without any SolidWorks knowledge to create new models and drawings.

The Player can open a configurator file and play back all steps that were defined in the Recorder. If necessary, the user is prompted to enter dimension values, configuration names, new directory names or new file names. After all required info has been entered, the file can be run and all actions that have been defined in the Recorder are performed with the input from the Player.

During play-back, the user gets feetback of the action that is being performed.

In case an error occurs, the Player makes an error-report with all errors that have occurred. This allows the user to adjust his/her configurator file or his/her SolidWorks files.

The Player can also be started from another program, like Excel. You can use Excel to make the interface of you configurator (if you want to make a custom interface) and use a simple VB script to open the player, open the correct configurator file and enter the input from excel in the Player and run the Player.
